Major shakeup! Fox News loses Greta Van Susteren the same day Gretchen bombshell is announced

Fox News icon Greta Van Susteren will be leaving the network after 14 years.

The announcement comes on the heels of a whopping settlement reached between former Fox anchor Gretchen Carslon and ex-CEO Roger Ailes.

Senior political analyst Brit Hume will take over as anchor of “On the Record” starting today, Sept. 6.

Network co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine did not comment on the reason for Van Susteren’s departure, but jointly said they were grateful for her contributions over the years and wish her future sucess.

As for Hume? He said he’s up to the challenge of his new position.

“I am happy to take on this assignment for the balance of this extraordinary election,” Hume said in a statement.

“My FOX News colleagues have set a high standard for political coverage which I’ll do my best to uphold.”

Speculation by Fox viewers abounds:

Former colleague Carlson just received a huge settlement for her sexual harassment lawsuit against Ailes.  Van Susteren had been critical of Carlson’s sexual allegation claims, and it is unclear if the newly reached compromise that came with an apology from Fox News  was a catalyst in her decision to leave the network.

There haven’t been details on why Van Susteren is leaving, but she sent a farewell message to former co-worker Geraldo Rivera.
