‘Stop! He’s not white!’ Reporter saved from vicious Black Lives Matter beating because color of his skin

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter found himself being judged not by the content of his character, but by the color of his skin — and that turned out to be a good thing.

During the recent riots in Milwaukee, reporter Aaron Mak, a Chinese-American, found himself caught up in the crossfire when racist Black Lives Matter thugs began searching out and beating white people. The protesters began singling out white people in response to a black police officer killing a black suspect armed with a handgun that held 23 rounds.

In a piece published Tuesday in Politico Magazine, Mak was clear that he “was attacked — and spared — because of my race at a Black Lives Matter protest.”

The reporter explained that while running to get away from the violent protesters, he was overtaken and punches began to fly. The attack occurring even though Mak was reassured earlier that he would be safe.

“You’re a minority, too,” a black activist told him.

The protesters who descended upon him like a pack of wild dogs apparently didn’t receive the memo, but amid the carnage a voice suddenly rang out: “Stop! He’s not white! He’s Asian!”

“I wasn’t sure who said it, or how they knew my race,” Mak wrote of the terrifying moment, “but within seconds, the punches stopped. Someone grabbed me by the arm and lifted me up. As my vision came back into focus, I saw a group of concerned black faces and heard someone repeating, ‘Don’t f*ck with Chinese dudes.'”

Mak said his getaway attempt came after crouching behind a Chevy Suburban to avoid bullets.

“Another intern, a white man who had arrived later on to take photos, huddled beside me,” he explained. “After the gunfire ceased, he emerged from behind the car to take more pictures while I stayed behind.”

That white man, Calvin Mattheis, wrote of his experience in his blog, “The Boiling Point.”

“I stood up from behind the Suburban and when I raised my camera, a man from across the street saw me and shouted “Get your white a** out of here! You better not let me f*cking catch you!” he wrote.

Mattheis took flight after the man charged at him and ended up being chased by “around 20-25 people” — fortunately, he reached safety before having to pay a very painful price for his white skin.
