Trace Adkins’ drunken performance at a charity event just has to be seen to be believed

Country music star Trace Adkins’s drunken performance at a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is drawing more sympathy than scorn.

Adkins, who has a history of alcoholism, showed up at tthe Rockin’ Country Thunder 106 Guys With Guitars Under the Stars event Wednesday in Seaside Heights, N.J., visibly intoxicated, according to Taste of Country.

TMZ posted a video showing the recording artist slumped on a stool, mumbling the lyrics to a song:

Taste of Country noted that Adkins is a longtime supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and that he donated his appearance fee for the show to the hospital. The country music news outlet added, “a source close to Adkins says everyone is rallying around him.”

Thunder 106 program director Chris VanZant is one of those pulling for Adkins to prevail in his battle with alcoholism.

VanZant posted a heartfelt message on Facebook calling on fans to “send a positive thought, support and prayer.”
