St. Louis area police officer rushed to hospital after being shot in neck, suspect in custody

Hours after five police officers were murdered in Dallas on Thursday another police officer was shot in a suburb of St. Louis.

The shooting occurred during a traffic stop around 11:00 a.m. local time, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The suspect, described as a tall, thin black man, was apprehended after a foot chase. A handgun was recovered, according to the Post-Dispatch.

The Ballwin officer, who was shot in the neck, was taken to a local hospital.

His condition is critical but stable according to St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar.
