Better late than never.
After months of holding out, popular Wisconsin governor and former Presidential candidate Scott Walker is finally officially ON the Trump train, but it likely took FBI Director James Comey’s “get out of jail free” card to Hillary Clinton to paint Walker a picture of just how bad a Clinton presidency would be.
Bucking a trend among still-butthurt Republican officials and former presidential candidates like John Kasich, Mitt Romney, Ted Cruz, and the Bush family, who all at this point won’t be speaking or attending the convention, the good governor has decided to put on his big boy pants and give helping the country a shot.
Correctly calling a vote for anyone other than Donald Trump a “de facto vote” for Hillary Clinton, Walker told WKOW, “I think there is a clear contrast. For those who raise concerns like I just did about the judgment of Hillary Clinton in terms of not just those emails, but some of the other issues out there, really there’s only one alternative.”
“If someone doesn’t cast a vote for the Republican nominee, they are effectively casting a vote for her and that’s part of what I’d be willing to talk about,” Walker said.
The announcement came just moments after James Comey’s admission to the nation that, indeed, some people are more equal than others, and the governor indicated that he fully intends to cover the Clinton email scandal in his speech.
While acknowledging the fact that Trump WILL be the nominee (despite the best windmill tilting efforts of about 400 of the almost 2,500 delegates who still want to try to block Trump on the convention floor), Walker embraced reality, “It’s either gonna be Hillary Clinton or it’s gonna be Donald Trump and we have to decide who we want it to be.”
The Wisconsin governor was forgiving when referring to Donald Trump’s personal attacks against him during the primaries and even after he endorsed Ted Cruz before the Wisconsin primary. “I’m a big boy. I can handle (it). I’ve handled plenty of critiques in the past. Typically its been from those politically on the other side of the spectrum, but to me, even folks who have been primary opponents and others have things to say.”
Then, Walker summed it all up in this Wednesday tweet:
Last August, I said I'd support the GOP nominee. It's now clear who the RNC delegates will vote to nominate. And he is better than she is.
