Marine reels in monster shark-–but his next move is what’s really getting beachgoers’ attention

A U.S. Marine is captured on video reeling in an enormous tiger shark off the coast of North Carolina.

And before the animal rights folks have a conniption, the Marine, David Schmidt, was with a group of researchers from the Apex Predators Program, which catches and tags sharks for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, according to Fox News.

The beast seen in the video, almost 12 feet in length and weighing between 600-700 pounds, was not tagged and was released safely back into the ocean.

The dramatic scene took place at North Topsail Beach and was captured by Laura Harrell, who posted the video and photos on Facebook:
