Chauncy Jones is a likable 16-year-old boy from Tennessee who was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth… but he does have a willingness to work for what he wants and that trait is paying off in spades.

Memphis resident Matt White shared a recent experience he had with Chauncy on Facebook after the teen approached him as he was leaving a Kroger grocery store and asked to help carry his groceries in exchange for food, WXIN-TV reported.

Glazed donuts to be exact… he is a 16-year-old, after all.

“This kid looked like he had been turned down 100 times. He looked ashamed, hungry and broken,” White wrote in the post that has since gone viral.

The hard-working teen told White he lived with his mother and this was his only hope to eat that day.

“All the while we talked and he told me how he makes straight A’s in school and is trying to get a job to help his mom pay rent,” White said. “This kid was amazing. Jones kept calling himself poor, but he told me that one day he was gonna be wealthy and own his own businesses so that he could help other people in his neighborhood and buy them groceries like me.”

White was so inspired he bought Chauncy a few bags of groceries and gave him a ride home. Turns out, Chauncy was telling the truth, he and his mother didn’t have anything – not even beds or furniture.

“As we unpacked the food into their kitchen, you could see the hope coming back into Chauncy’s eyes,” White said. “He knew he wasn’t going to be hungry.”

He also posted a video of Chauncy recounting their experience and created a GoFundMe account titled “Chauncy’s Chance,” that listed things the teen needs, like money to pay for an ID so Chauncy can apply for jobs and money for a lawnmower so he can make money cutting lawns.

The fund has exceeded $64,000.

Here’s the “interview” with Chauncy, and be warned, he is indeed a likable kid:
