A Michigan dad is being hailed as a hero by many Americans desperate for a positive sign in a time of collapsing traditional values.
Finding his family in the middle of the “bathroom wars” inspired by President Barack Obama’s edict in support of the transgender agenda, Matt Stewart confronted school officials and when he wasn’t happy with the answers he got, he pulled his sons out of school.
All three of them.
The drama began when Stewart posed a question to his children asked a million-plus times, “How was school today?”
“My son informed me there was a girl in the bathroom with him and the other kids in his class,” Stewart told ABC affiliate WXYZ.
He called the school to ask: a) Why parents weren’t given notice of the school’s policy for transgender students’ use of facilities, b) why parents didn’t have any input, and c) what where his options to protect the privacy of his children.
Following the exchange, Stewart and his wife decided to pull their three sons out of school, WXYZ reported.
“As parents, we decided we were not going to force our children to make the decision between confusion, humiliation, and embarrassment,” he said.
Stewart and his wife face the same issue confronting millions of Americans, which is how to extend rights to a small segment of society without violating the rights of the vast majority.
“My child is now facing the humiliation of choosing to either risk exposing himself to a student of the opposite sex or going to a separate facility,” he said. “I think there needs to be a solution where every child is comfortable.”
Southwest Elementary School, located in Howell, Michigan, sent a letter home pointing to the Obama administration’s “guidance on the rights of transgender students,” saying “the government stated that transgender students must be allowed to access those facilities ‘consistent with their gender identity'” and that Howell Public Schools “intends to comply.”
