It was the case of the seven-year grudge that ended in a fistfight — at the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Fox News Host Jesse Watters was confronted at a post-White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night by Huffington Post reporter Ryan Grim over a 2007 incident between Watters and Grim’s girlfriend, Amanda Terkel.

Grim claimed Watters “followed, harassed and ambushed” her while she was on vacation seven years previously, and Grim decided to engage in a little “ambush reporting” himself using his cell phone camera.

Watters didn’t like it one bit and snatched the cell phone from Grim and placed it in his pocket. Soon the confrontation escalated into an all out brawl.

Washington Post national politics correspondent Dave Weigel reported.

And here’s a short snippet of the action.

The Washington Post reported:

“Punches were definitely thrown,” said one witness.

Before any damage was done, several bystanders, including Sean Spicer, communications director at the Republican National Committee, separated the two. Spicer said he didn’t see the lead-up to the fight and said he was merely attempting to stay true to the party venue. “Just trying to keep the peace,” he said.

Asked for comment, a Fox spokeswoman said the most Washington thing ever: “Jesse will address the issue tomorrow night on The O’Reilly Factor.” Meanwhile, Grim was unrepentant. “Ambush guy can’t take getting ambushed,” he said. “Maybe he should think about his life choices.”

CNN’s Brian Stelter had but one comment.

And it all took place at the Institute of Peace.
