Carly Fiorina got called out for repeatedly blasting Hillary Clinton during the current campaign season while praising her eight years earlier.
But it can all be explained, according to the former Hewlett-Packard CEO.
“Throughout this campaign, I have repeatedly asked Hillary Clinton to name an accomplishment,” Fiorina wrote in a CNN op-ed. “She has yet to name one. Note: Flying is an activity, not an accomplishment.”
She’d made similar claims during her presidential run and as Sen. Ted Cruz‘s vice presidential pick.
However, she appeared to sing a different tune in 2008 when she served as a surrogate for Sen. John McCain’s then-presidential bid.
“She was a great candidate,” she said then. “She has helped millions of women all over this country. Women of any political party owe a debt of gratitude to Hillary Clinton and I will bet that every woman up here agrees with me.”.

She got called out for her apparent change of opinion of the former secretary of state by both The Washington Post and Yahoo News’ Katie Couric.
A Fiorina spokeswoman told The Post she couldn’t recall the incident and said she was probably referring to who she would support among the Democratic presidential candidates.
Couric was later able to pin Fiorina down during an interview.
“You’ve had some unkind words for Hillary Clinton,” Couric said. “You’ve said that she’s not trustworthy and that she hasn’t accomplished very much.”
Then the former CBS News anchor noted that Clinton was a former senator and secretary of state.
“In the world that I come from, a title’s just a title,” Fiorina said. “And the truth is, there are many in the political class who haven’t accomplished a whole lot despite their titles.”
After she went on to give examples of Clinton’s untrustworthiness, Couric threw out what she thought was her gotcha’ question — her praise of Clinton in the past.
“You said some pretty flattering things about Hillary Clinton — I think it was back in 2008. So has your opinion of her changed in the last seven years?” she asked.
“No, not at all. Hillary Clinton is a highly intelligent, very hard-working woman who has dedicated her life to public service. Those things are all still true.” Fiorina said.
“And yet she does not have a track record of trustworthiness, and despite her impressive titles she hasn’t accomplished very much.”
Well, that settles that.
