The Virginia convention was held and over a dozen delegates were at stakeā€¦

Sen. Ted Cruz walked away pocketing 10 of the 13 delegates Saturday — GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump was awarded the remaining three.

Given that Trump won the Virginia primary, Trump supporters were less than pleased. Even one Cruz supporter cried foul.

“I voted for Cruz in the primary but I am against this slate because this is not what our state voted for,” said one delegate, ABC News reported.

However, Cruz surrogate Ken Cuccinnelli said the results werenā€™t out of line. Trump won the primary by capturing only 38 percent of the vote when the Republican field was much larger.

“Ted is successfully coalescing — unifying, most of the rest of the party and that’s the only way we can do this, that’s the only way we can win a vote like this,” he told ABC News.

“That and having a good grassroots is why we’re doing so well in these events all around the country,” he said.

Cuccinelli added that the slate was essentially an “olive branch” to Trump supporters.

“If we wanted a 13-0 slate, we could have had it,” he told the network. Instead we supported the mixed slate that was a unity slate, and that’s an effort we’re trying to make all around the country.”

Richmond Times-Dispatch politics reporter Graham Moomaw tweeted:

Trump supporters could take comfort that their candidate has at last count more that 1,000 delegates on the road to the magic 1,237, almost twice that of the Texas firebrand.

“We are really pleased that Donald Trump has 1,002 delegates as of today and will be our next president,” delegate Clay Chase said.

“At the end of the day, Trump is going to win on the first ballot, so the selection of the delegates is kind of a moot point, really,” Trump surrogate Corey Stewart said. “We thought it was a good show, and we did better than expected,” he added.

Cruz also scored a victory at the Arizona GOP convention Saturday.
