Harris-Perry refuses to do show, trashes MSNBC: I’m ‘no token, mammy or little brown bobble head’

Karma.

They pay her to regularly play ugly race cards, baiting an ignorant liberal audience.

On Friday, Melissa Harris-Perry turned on her employers, publicly accusing MSNBC bosses of messing with her show because she is black.

Are they shocked to find that she really believes her own race-obsessed, paranoid gibberish? (See some of her greatest hits, below.)

Harris-Perry has revealed she will not be hosting her MSNBC show this weekend, citing schedule pre-emptions and a loss of control that have left her feeling “worthless.”

In an email to coworkers, Harris-Perry said she felt her show had been taken away without any discussion as weeks of election coverage have kept her on the sidelines, according to The New York Times which obtained a copy of the letter.

“Here is the reality: Our show was taken — without comment or discussion or notice — in the midst of an election season,” she said in the email. “After four years of building an audience, developing a brand and developing trust with our viewers, we were effectively and utterly silenced.”

The letter appeared to blame both NBC News chairman Andrew Lack and MSNBC president Phil Griffin for the poor handling of her show, which airs from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

“I will not be used as a tool for their purposes,” she wrote, according to the Times. “I am not a token, mammy, or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by Lack, Griffin or MSNBC. I love our show. I want it back.”

In a subsequent phone interview with the Times, Harris-Perry said she did not think that race actually played any part in her lack of airtime. “I don’t know if there is a personal racial component,” she said. “I don’t think anyone is doing something mean to me because I’m a black person.”

Harris-Perry typically uses her show, which she has hosted since 2012, to discuss topics like social justice, diversity, and racism. She told the Times she was frustrated by the preemption of her show for election coverage and felt that not being able to talk to her viewers was a “betrayal.”

In a statement, an NBC News spokesman said “In this exciting and unpredictable presidential primary season, many of our daytime programs have been temporarily upended by breaking political coverage, including M.H.P. This reaction is really surprising, confusing and disappointing,”  the Times reported.

With no official word that her show had been cancelled, Harris-Perry said she has not appeared on MSNBC “for weeks” and, when asked to return for this weekend, she told the Times she refused.

“It is perfectly fine, 100 percent reasonable and perfectly acceptable for MSNBC to decide they no longer want the M.H.P. show,” she said. “But they should say that, they should cancel the show, they should stand up. And maybe it would be rewarded with huge ratings, but they shouldn’t kill us by attrition and take us off the air without telling anybody, including us. That for me is what’s painful and difficult.”

Harris-Perry released a link to a copy of her email on her Twitter account.
