Franklin Graham offers Pope Francis advice; why not ‘build a bridge to Trump?’

As the battle of words unfolded between Donald Trump and Pope Francis, evangelist Franklin Graham dished out some of his own advice to the pontiff.

Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham and president of Samaritan’s Purse, responded to the pope’s comments that the GOP candidate is “not Christian” because of his plans to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, and that he should be building bridges instead.

Though he agreed with the pontiff’s intention of reaching out to others, Graham noted that national security should not be compromised in the process, advising the pope to “reach out and build a bridge to Donald Trump.”

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Graham defended Trump and other candidates who are intent on protecting Americans by securing our borders.

“Donald Trump isn’t the only one who wants to build a wall,” he said in the post. “Other Republican candidates Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Dr. Ben Carson, and John Kasich as well as millions of Americans, also want to build a wall—in order to protect America from enemies who want to use the U.S./Mexican border as a way to enter our country and do us harm. Are they not Christian either?”
