Ted Nugent has really stepped in it this time.
The rocker is well known for his outspoken and often controversial point of view on guns and the Second Amendment, but did he go too far in a social media rant this week that’s drawing fire from all sides for being anti-Semitic?
Nugent posted on Facebook a collage of photos of prominent Jewish Americans whom he claimed were “really behind gun control” — each image was overlaid with an Israeli flag, with a select few including derogatory commentary.
One such example is the photo of Michael Bloomberg, which said he was the mayor of “Jew York City.”
“Know these punks,” the rocker wrote. “They hate freedom, they hate good over evil, they would deny us the basic human right to self defense & to KEEP & BEAR ARMS while many of them have tax paid hired ARMED security!”
Nugent, who has been a NRA board member since 1995, is no stranger to angering the gun grabbers on the left, but he is also being criticized by some on the right over the post who are calling for the NRA to remove him.
The Huffington Post reported:
The authors of two popular websites for gun enthusiasts denounced Nugent. Robert Farago, founder of The Truth About Guns, wrote Tuesday that the NRA “should distance itself from Mr. Nugent. They should revoke his membership and remove him from their Board.”
Bob Owens, editor of the site Bearing Arms, said Tuesday, “Many people are calling for [Nugent] to resign from the NRA Board and for him to have his membership stripped from him. While I think forcing him out of the NRA entirely is a bit much, I do think he owes the world a sincere apology. If he can’t find that sincerity in his heart, then he has no business being on the board of an inclusive organization such as the National Rifle Association.”
To the surprise of few, when faced with the withering fire, Nugent doubled down by posting a second rant on Facebook.
“Just when you hope that mankind [couldn’t] possibly get any dumber or more dishonest, superFreaks rise to the occasion,” he said. “What sort of racist prejudiced POS could possibly not know that Jews for gun control are nazis in disguise?”
Here is the full commentary … which is not likely to quiet the critics:
