Civil libertarians opposed to 24/7 surveillance of mosques and Muslim activities “can cry all they want,” said New York Republican Rep. Peter King.

During a wide-ranging interview with host Doug McKelway on Fox News Sunday, King defended his past comparison of going after radical Islam to the Mafia and other mob activity.

They can cry all they want. The fact is that’s where the threat is coming from. And we can say that 98, 99% of Muslims in this country are good people — I’m actually swearing-in the first elected Muslim on Long Island to office, she’s a good friend of mine — so this is nothing against Muslims. But the fact is that where the threat is coming from and we’re kidding ourselves we have this blind political correctness, it makes no sense.

Adding his criticism to President Obama‘s failure to defeat the Islamic State, King said, “After 15, 16 months of air attacks by the U.S., it’s really had minimal impact on ISIS.”

King, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee also commented on new body scan requirements for the TSA, which he said has been ineffective at stopping potential attacks.

Watch the entire interview below; King’s remarks on surveillance start at the 5:15 mark.
