Trump calls out Trey Gowdy over ‘big pivot’

Has Donald Trump lost faith in Trey Gowdy?

While there is plenty of buzz about Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton testifying before the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Thursday, Trump is not feeling the excitement.

The Republican presidential front-runner appeared Tuesday on Fox News’ “Hannity,” and called Gowdy out for doing “a big pivot away” from Clinton — Gowdy is chairman of the panel.  Trump also expressed concerns about how this will impact the investigation moving forward.
“Well, I have to tell you, I was really looking forward to the hearings but then you had a congressman, Republican, go against Trey Gowdy and all of the people, as you know,” Trump said.

gowdy-trumpHe was referring to House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who offered up a huge gift to Clinton when he made an ill-advised remark that the select committee’s probe into Benghazi was negatively affecting Clinton’s poll numbers.

“And then you had a whistle-blower come out, so that hurt,” Trump added.

The “whistle-blower” was disgruntled former committee employee Bradley Podliska, who claimed the panel’s purpose was to target Clinton — a claim made after he was fired.

Trump referenced Gowdy’s appearance Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” when the lawmaker sounded off against Republicans who are commenting on the Benghazi committee, saying they need to “shut up talking about things that [they] don’t know anything about.”

Gowdy also told Politico it was “hard” for him to hear that the probe is all about Clinton, and that she was “not worth 18 months of my life” — he followed that by stating that the four people who died in the attack are.

Trump seemed to feel this is a harbinger of things to come.

“And then yesterday, I watched Trey, who I do respect — I think he’s a terrific guy — but he seemed to be doing a big pivot,” he told host Sean Hannity. “He said, ‘Well this isn’t about Hillary Clinton.’ You know I’m pretty good at figuring this stuff out, and he seemed to be doing Sean, I’m sure you saw it, he seemed to be doing a big pivot away from Hillary Clinton.”

“And I was trying to figure out what that was all about,” Trump said. “So you may not be as happy as you think with these hearings. I just don’t know. The hearings — I was looking forward to them. But with all that’s happening, I was surprised that he pivoted away so much from Hillary.”

Part of the “Hannity” interview can be seen here, with the comments on Gowdy coming just after the 6-minute mark.
