As if there weren’t enough reasons to hate Common Core, here is one more to add to the mix.
Under the guise of a writing lesson, Common Core is indoctrinating young minds with the concept that gun ownership is bad, so stringent gun control laws are necessary.
Produced in collaboration with the National Writing Project, the paper is called, “Educator Guide: the Battle over Gun Control,” and begins:
“Gun control is among the most divisive issues in American politics today,” the introduction reads. “For many, it boils down to a basic debate over priorities: the constitutional right to bear arms and protect oneself vs. an effort to reduce violence.”
Then the introduction makes what is perhaps the most damning statement.
“The U.S. has the highest gun ownership rate in the world and the highest gun violence rate of any wealthy nation. It also has some of the loosest gun control laws.”
The conclusion the reader is supposed to reach from this is pretty apparent: Reduce the number of privately-owned guns, make gun control laws more stringent and the world will be a better place.
What it fails to acknowledge, however, is that those jurisdictions having the most draconian gun control laws are the ones with the highest homicide rates.
