What a difficult time it has come to be for law enforcement officers in America.

In what appears to be a growing trend, a Midwest police officer was denied service at a popular eatery because he — egad! — had a gun while on duty and in uniform, according to KCTV5.

Kansas City Police Officer Michael Holsworth posted a troubling message on Facebook saying that he was denied service Sunday at a local Olive Garden restaurant because he had a gun.

Holsworth wrote that he was waiting on family to join him for lunch when an employee told him, “We don’t allow guns in here.”

Astonished, he asked her if she was serious and the employee said “yes.”

“Well I can leave I guess,” the uniformed officer said.

“Yes, please leave,” he was reportedly told.

KCTV5 reported that Holsworth later issued a statement through the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99 that said, “It is my hope that Olive Garden handles this situation appropriately so no other officer has the same experience I had today.”

FOP Lodge 99 president Brad Lemon expressed the dismay police all across the country must be feeling today.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult day for our brother, and our entire family,” he wrote on Facebook. “All we ever ask is to be treated fairly and with the same respect to due anyone else. When we are treated poorly because of our chosen occupation, it hurts. It’s not okay to treat law enforcement poorly.”

The president of Olive Garden has since contacted Officer Holsworth to personally apologize, according to KCTV5.

The company is being inundated on social media with angry replies, and is responding to every comment with a message similar to this:
