‘Stuff happens’: ‘Dirty’ reporter says Jeb shrugged off shooting, responses blow up Internet

jeb-bushFellow Republicans — conservative Republicans — rushed to defend former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush when liberals took his “stuff happens” remark way out of context with respect to Thursday’s shooting at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College.

“We’re in a difficult time in our country and I don’t think more government is necessarily the answer to this,” Bush, who’s an establishment Republican presidential candidate, said in Greenville, South Carolina. “I think we need to reconnect ourselves with everybody else. It’s very sad to see. I resist the notion. I had this challenge as governor, ’cause we had, look, stuff happens, there’s always a crisis. And the impulse is always to do something and it’s not necessarily the right thing to do.”

New Yorker writer and CNN contributor, Ryan Lizza, seemed to hear only two words in Bush’s statement. He predictably started a firestorm by tweeting:

Washington Examiner media reporter T. Becket Adams saw right through this ruse, however, and tweeted:

Adams continued to hammer, and others agreed there was more to the story than “stuff happens.”
