Dr. Ben Carson isn’t going to let anti-gun zealots corner him into going against the Second Amendment.
The Republican presidential hopeful defended against stricter gun registration laws shortly after the Oregon massacre on Thursday.
Carson talked with radio host Hugh Hewitt about the horrific massacre that left up to 10 people dead and numerous others injured at Umpqua Community College.
“Obviously, there are going to be those who are going to be calling for gun control,” Carson said.
“Obviously, that’s not the issue. The issue is the mentality of these people.”
Carson, in his measured tone, said that society needs to learn to identify people who are suffering from mental illness and show early signs of violence.
Carson’s approach was the polar opposite of the anti-liberty crowd that spent Thursday afternoon spewing gun-control vitriol on social media. Even President Obama seized the opportunity to proudly “politicize” the deadly act.
Mass shootings are good for business for these callous, cynical b******s: @NRA Time to go after them. http://t.co/hPUDdRWLbX #oregon

How do we make our lawmakers listen? How do we break the NRA stranglehold on our congress? #ImAsMadAsHellAndImNotGoingToTakeThisAnymore — swampy marsh (@mmonogram) October 2, 2015
They’re blaming the NRA. They’re blaming Republicans. They’re telling the next loser that someone else made them crazy.

Carson’s thoughtful response offered a voice-of-reason for many Second Amendment supporters.
“What I worry about is when we get to the point where we say we need to have every gun registered, we have to know where the people are and where their guns are,” Carson said.
“That’s very dangerous. And that I wouldn’t agree with at all.”
