Teen takes guard duty for deputy pumping gas, and the story goes viral!

A Texas deputy’s story and photo about a teenager who stood guard in the rain to make sure she was safe is taking the Internet by storm.

With the execution-style murder of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth still in the public mind,  Harris County Deputy Constable Tommi Jones Kelley wrote on her Facebook page that she had stopped to gas up her patrol vehicle when teenager Mckinley Zoellner asked her, “ma’am, do u mind if I stand here behind you while u get ur gas?”

When Kelly asked why, the boy answered, “to make sure You stay safe!” she posted.

The selfie she took of the two of them, together with her story of the encounter, has since gone over-the-top viral.

Here’s the post:

Ok, so EARLY this morning I was pumping gas in my patrol car (reason I look like a Hot Mess!)…& add it was pouring…

Given that Kelly’s colleague, Deputy Goforth, was shot in the back of the head, allegedly while he was filling his own vehicle, Zoellner’s gesture meant the world to her.

Career criminal Shannon Miles, 30, is alleged to have crept up behind Goforth and emptied his gun on the deputy.

Miles was arrested Aug. 29, the day after the murder, and charged with capital murder.

When Kelly finished filling the tank, she said Zoellner “was still standing there, in the rain.” He then walked off and hopped into the passenger side of another vehicle.

Kelly approached the boy’s mother, and said, “she has an amazing son & she said he wanted to make sure no one hurt me.”

Very amazing, and in today’s anti-police climate, very cool.

Social media uses were thrilled.
