Las Vegas police officer shot; 2 suspects in custody

Two suspects were in custody Friday in the shooting of a Las Vegas police officer responding to a pre-dawn call.

The officer was struck in the leg, was recovering in stable but serious condition at University Medical Center, and will require extensive surgery, said Sheriff Joseph Lombardo.

According to police, the officer responded to the burglary call at about 4 a.m. and was fired on, KLAS-TV reported.

Officers returned fire and released a police dog who bit one of the suspects, who had to be taken to the hospital as well.

Another suspect temporarily managed to escape but was caught nearby a short time later, according to KLAS-TV.
