Whoa! Why the cold shoulder?
A Democratic presidential candidate forgot his audience during a speech — and got a nasty look from his party’s leader.
Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley lashed out at the Democratic Party on Friday for its decision to keep the number of primary election debates at four, saying it was a ploy to rig the nomination for front-runner Hillary Clinton.
But he forgot the first rule of speech-making: know your audience.
He was speaking at the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting in Minneapolis.
“Four debates and only four debates — we are told, not asked — before voters in our earliest states make their decision,” O’Malley says at about the 3:10 mark of the video below.
“This sort of rigged process has never been attempted before,” he added. “One debate in Iowa. That’s it. One debate in New Hampshire. That’s all we can afford.”
When O’Malley finished, at the 15:00 mark on the video, he greeted the DNC chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida. If her eyes had the power to project death rays, the Democratic presidential field would have been reduced by one Friday.
