Two favorites of anti-establishment conservatives — former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump — came together in a highly anticipated interview Friday night.
Interest in the Palin-Trump interview on One America News Network.was so great that the small cable outlet’s website crashed hours before it aired, according to Variety.
Trump indicated he wanted to simplify the federal tax code “that nobody understands” by going to a fair-tax or flat-tax system to help the middle class.
“The country was based on the middle class,” he told Palin.
Palin noted that the candidate resonates with military veterans.
“It’s really pretty simple,” Trump replied. “You look at what’s happened to the vets. They’re being treated like third-class citizens.”
He said that huge sums of money are being poured into the system, but that the problem rests with incompetent leadership.
The veterans “know I’ll fix the Veterans Administration,” he said. “They are great people and they’re being treated very badly.”
Palin and Trump also discussed the mainstream media and the recent dust-up between him and Univision anchor Jorge Ramos.
Palin asked Trump where he got the “guts” to take on Ramos as he did, and Trump said he didn’t like Ramos’ “ranting and raving.”
