While Team Hillary was preoccupied with putting out the fire, the rest of America wanted to roast a few marshmallows.
Hillary Clinton rarely goes off message, but one exception is when longtime aide Huma Abedin is being targeted.
The Clinton campaign fired back hard Friday evening after Republican front-runner Donald Trump took a shot at Abedin and her husband, Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former New York congressman.
At a Boston fundraiser earlier in the day, Trump called Weiner a “perv” and said he was a “bad guy.” He also suggested that Abedin shared classified information with her husband.
Nick Merrill, Clinton’s traveling press secretary, ripped into the real estate magnate on social media, condemning Trump’s remarks:
.@realDonaldTrump crossed the line this evening. Disgraceful. pic.twitter.com/RkMqOQa7fO

A scan of Merrill’s Twitter feed shows that not only does Trump dominate the polls, his supporters also dominate social media.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
@NickMerrill @realDonaldTrump if we want 2 talk abt crossing lines did @HillaryClinton apologize 4 referring 2 @gop as terrorists?
— Sean Spicer (@seanspicer) August 29, 2015

@NickMerrill What happened? Did @realDonaldTrump point out Huma’s Muslim Brotherhood ties? He’s a jerk.
— Jimmy Simpson (@informedblackmn) August 29, 2015

— Jo Lissa (@JoLissa13) August 29, 2015

— Simon Templar (@SimonTemplarPV) August 29, 2015
@NickMerrill Everything @realDonaldTrump said about Anthony Weiner was a truth. I guess you find the truth disgraceful
— Lord Emsworth (@Rushlimbang) August 29, 2015
@NickMerrill Oh please. Would it have been better if he compared your team to terrorists?
— Aleister (@AmericanGlob) August 29, 2015
@NickMerrill @realDonaldTrump Loved it and he was right. Weiner is a sick man!
