Donald Trump’s latest comment about Fox News’ Megyn Kelly was “a bridge too far” for RedState’s Erick Erickson.
Just before midnight on Friday, Erickson disinvited Trump to speak at his annual RedState Gathering in Atlanta.
Thousands of engaged conservatives, some of them Trump supporters, showed up at the sold-out event expecting to see Trump on Saturday.
Erickson announced his decision in a personal statement and on Twitter. It didn’t take Team Trump long to respond. Check out the drama:
I have rescinded my invitation to Mr.Trump. While I have tried to give him great latitude, his remark about Megyn Kelly was a bridge too far

I have invited @MegynKelly to attend tomorrow night’s RedState Gathering event in place of Donald Trump.

But given it is last minute and she has a family and it is the weekend, @megynkelly probably can’t attend. But I’d love to have her. — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 8, 2015
Here’s why I disinvited Donald Trump from the RedState Gathering. http://t.co/KY0MJaPPHB — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 8, 2015
It is a shame that a candidate for President confuses political correctness and common decency.

Hey, I killed the straw poll too! — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 8, 2015
Just for the record, the RedState Gathering was sold out long before we even announced Donald Trump would be coming. — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 8, 2015
It’s a very simple concept Trump supporters, of all people, should respect — my event and my microphone.

Trump’s campaign responded in a statement:
“Another example of weakness through being politically correct. For all the people who were looking forward to Mr. Trump coming, we will miss you. Blame Erick Erickson, your weak and pathetic leader. We’ll now be doing another campaign stop at another location.”
Just to be clear, “weak” and “pathetic” is blaming a tough question on hormones. — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 8, 2015
Must be a pain in the ass to not be able to buy somebody.
