Ted Cruz supporters LASH OUT at Romney over Iran deal sniping; ‘This … is why he lost’

If only Republicans went after Democrats as aggressively as they do one of their own.

Showing an assertiveness that was sorely missing in his 2012 run against President Barack Obama, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took aim at fellow Republican Ted Cruz for criticizing the president’s “historic” nuclear deal with Iran.

Cruz said in an interview last week with the Washington Examiner the removal of sanctions against the Persian Gulf country could release more than $100 billion, money that can flow to radical jihadist around the world.

“If this deal goes through, the Obama administration, President Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, will become the leading global financiers of radical Islamic terrorism,” Cruz said.

Romney took to social media to say:

But Cruz, a 2016 presidential contender, doubled down on his remarks this week during a round table with reporters.

“If this deal is consummated, it will make the Obama administration the world’s leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism,” he said Tuesday. “Billions of dollars under control of this administration will flow into the hands of jihadists who will use that money to murder Americans, to murder Israelis, to murder Europeans.”

A reasonable assessment, given Iran’s history.

The reaction on social media to Romney’s criticism shows that there are plenty who stand with Cruz, and wish Romney exhibited a little of this tenacity when going up against Obama. Or as one user pointed out, “this kind of thing is why he lost.”
