Blackface comment NOT okay, says Dem: ‘If George Takei were Ted Nugent and Clarence Thomas were Obama . . .’

Maybe George Takei is the real clown.

The “Star Trek” actor and gay activist clumsily tried to explain away his racist comment directed at Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas that set social media on fire Thursday, but many people weren’t buying it.

After he called Thomas a clown in blackface” during an interview with a local Phoenix news station, social media exploded with vitriol against Takei. Rather than apologize, he decided to explain on his Facebook page why he was right.

A few fans have written wondering whether I intended to utter a racist remark by referring to Justice Thomas as a “clown in blackface.”

“Blackface” is a lesser known theatrical term for a white actor who blackens his face to play a black buffoon. In traditional theater lingo, and in my view and intent, that is not racist. It is instead part of a racist history in this country.

I feel Justice Thomas has abdicated and abandoned his African-American heritage by claiming slavery did not strip dignity from human beings. He made a similar remark about the Japanese-American internment, of which I am a survivor. A sitting Justice of the Supreme Court ought to know better.

A few fans? Tweeters lit him up.

And while the majority of the left-wing media did their best to cover for Takei, Democrat strategist Marc Lamont Hill wasn’t one of them.

“If @GeorgeTakei were Ted Nugent, and Clarence Thomas were Obama, we’d be having a whole different conversation about his “blackface” comment,” he tweeted.

Takei’s non-apology did little to quell the backlash.
