Heroic firefighters save Vietnam vet’s treasured memento from destruction

Firefighters in Georgia did more than their duty when they saved something precious for a veteran.

Don Pruitt was given a Georgia state flag before he went off to fight in Vietnam, and he has held on to that memento ever since, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

But he nearly lost it when his home caught fire Wednesday after it was struck by lightning.

Firefighters battling the blaze ran back inside Pruitt’s home to rescue the flag and medication he needed for to fight Parkinson’s disease and cancer.

Pruitt, a veterinarian, and his wife Sheila,  a nurse, who are the parents of two teenage sons lost everything in the fire and neighbors have started a GoFundMe page to help them recover.
