That stings! Sarcastic shot at Hillary wins Santorum props on new White House run

Although Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum’s campaign may lack the funding behind Jeb Bush or immigrant allure of Marco Rubio, it’s demonstrating a satirical sense of humor in spades — with Democrat Hillary Clinton as the butt of the joke.

The former Pennsylvania senator announced his second bid for the White House on Wednesday, and followed up with an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity.” But the real fun is the Clinton jab, hidden on Santorum’s campaign website in the form of a “404 error” message.

It depicts the iconic photo of Clinton in sunglasses aboard a Department of State jet working on her Blackberry with the standard “404 error” message, “We’re sorry, but we couldn’t find that page.”

Social media users loved it. Bloomberg Politics correspondent Jennifer Epstein was among those who first took notice, which opened the floodgates:

Santorum is a longshot and he knows it. He was a longshot in 2012, too, when the field was far less crowded.

But putting Hillary squarely in his crosshairs — and doing it with dead-on humor — is good start on hitting the target.
