Democrats really don’t have much taste for democracy.
The chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee proved that again on Tuesday, when she called Republicans opposed to President Obama’s executive action on illegal immigration “unacceptable” in the United States.
“We have families here who have been here for decades who are simply trying to make a better way of life for themselves, who have contributed to the American economy, and who we need to make sure we give a pathway to legal status and citizenship,” U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said on “The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart.”
“And every Republican candidate for president is opposed to allowing that to happen. It’s just unacceptable. It’s sad, and I think it’s going to be a big issue as we move towards election day next year.”
It’s “unacceptable” for an opposition party to oppose the president? It’s unacceptable for a political party to support a court action that has already ruled against President Obama’s constitutionally questionable usurpation of power over immigration laws?
The congresswoman from Florida isn’t too far from saying “unacceptable” that there’s an opposition party at all – and perhaps even a federal judiciary striking down policies that are clearly at variance with the separation of powers embedded by the Framers precisely to stop authority being centralized in one office – in one man – in the United States government.
But opposition to Obama’s immigration action isn’t the only thing DWS finds “unacceptable.”
She also thinks the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Hobby Lobby religious freedom case was “unacceptable.” Even former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s opposition to gay marriage is “unacceptable” to the South Florida Democrat.
Either Wasserman Schultz uses “unacceptable” the way some liberals uses “fascist” or Joe Biden uses “literally” — basically a meaningless word they toss into any occasion it seems convenient — or there are a whole lot of things DWS would ban if only she could.
Someone needs to clue the congresswoman in. An opposition party battling the president on the political ground while a federal judge oversees the fight is far from “unacceptable” – it’s pretty much how the geniuses who wrote the American Constitution intended things to work in this country.
For one of the leaders of the party that holds the White House to be unable to understand that is what’s really unacceptable.
