‘Daddy!’ Returning soldier shocks young son with photobomb on school picture day

After being out of the family picture for months on a deployment in Kuwait, Cpl. James Bass put himself back in – literally – with a heartwarming surprise on picture day at his son’s elementary school.

Third-grader Joshua didn’t know his father was back until he saw the picture the photographer had snapped. Cpl. Bass is in the background, giving his son the photobomb-surprise of his young life at Pearsontown Magnet School in Durham, N.C., according to ABC 11.

When the boy is shown the picture, he doesn’t quite get it – possibly James Bass’ uniform blended with the forest background the photographer used. Then he turned to see his father behind him.

“Daddy!” he cried, before being engulfed in his father’s arms.

It’s a moment worth watching over again.
