NFL player says Miami police harassed him because of race: ‘because I’m a black man with dreads’

An NFL player is claiming a weekend encounter with police in Miami Beach is the result of racism.

Brian Dixon, a cornerback for the New Orleans Saints, was pulled over Saturday by police who reported he was driving erratically, swerving in and out of lanes while passing cars on his scooter.

According to the police report, Dixon became “belligerent” after being stopped and questioned.

“You’re seriously going to give me a ticket for that?” Dixon said according to the report. “Just give me my tickets so I can get f*** out of here.”

Authorities asked him to sit on the sidewalk due to his”imposing size, stature and weight” and “agitated” state.

The police said Dixon twice refused to sit down and stepped towards a female officer in a fighting stance, according to the Times-Picayune.

The cornerback complained that he was being targeted because of his race.

“You’re just doing this because I’m a black man with dreads and I look like a criminal,” he charged. “I’m not a criminal. I give so much to this community.

After the race card didn’t work Dixon gave the celebrity card a shot.

“I’m an NFL player,” he said. “Let me call my agent.”

Unfortunately for Dixon that didn’t work either and he was taken into custody.

He was charged with resisting arrest and posted a $1,000 bond before being released from Miami-Dade County jail Sunday.

Dixon posted about the incident on Twitter after his release.

“It hurts to know that I wasn’t causing no trouble and was fully cooperating.,” he wrote in the tweet that has since been deleted.
