Carly Fiorina shreds Clinton on ‘character’ AND ‘competence’; virtually announces GOP bid for 2016

Edging ever closer to a declared run for the Republican nomination for president in 2016, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina took to “Fox News Sunday” to attack the all-but anointed Democrat in the race.

And she scored some hits.

In an interview with Chris Wallace, Fiorina said she has a “deep understanding of how the economy works” by virtue of having worked in it, unlike Hillary Clinton who has spent virtually her entire adult life at the public trough, either as her husband’s spouse or in her own right.

“Hillary Clinton lacks a track record of accomplishment. She is not candid, which suggests her character is flawed. And I think now in ’email-gate,’ we not only have a situation where she’s clearly not being candid. Her saying that all of those emails she erased were just her and Bill chatting is a little bit like Richard Nixon saying those erased moments on the tape were he and Pat talking – it’s ridiculous. Of course there was more there than that.”

Of course there was more than that – and even Democrats know it. Their problem is that they’ve been tied to the Clintons now for more than two decades, and even the interruption of Barack Obama hasn’t changed that.

(If Obama had been any less of a self-evident disaster for the party as well as the country, that might not be the case. But facts, as they say, are stubborn things.)

And as Fiorina’s harsh words about Clinton on Sunday showed, she’s not afraid to take the former secretary of state – for what she did while she was in her last office, as well as what she’s done since leaving it.

“The reason Benghazi was not enough of an issue in the 2012 election is because, unfortunately, our nominee pulled his punches when he had an opportunity to remind the American people of the Benghazi tragedy and scandal,” she said.

If Fiorina really isn’t going to be shy about hitting at Clinton tragedy and scandal, she’ll have plenty of material to work with.

And since she told Wallace her chances of joining the GOP presidential field are “higher than 90 percent,” it it’s going to be an instructional campaign season.
