Incredible story of how baby was saved from icy river unfolds; ‘mysterious voice’ guided rescuers

New revelations suggest that there were many miracles taking place the day a baby girl – who survived a car crash and 14 hours in freezing temperatures – was saved from a Utah river.

Rescuers on the scene said a mysterious yet “distinct” voice helped led them to 18-month-old Lily Groesbeck, who was trapped in a partially submerged car after it landed in the Spanish Fork River on Saturday.

The baby’s mother Jennifer Groesbeck, 25, died after she reportedly hit a cement barrier on a bridge that lurched their car off the road to land upside down in the icy water.

No one knew of the crash until a fisherman spotted the wreck the next day. Police officers who arrived on the scene said they remember a woman’s voice calling for “Help.”

“It wasn’t just something that was just in our heads. To me it was plain as day cause I remember hearing a voice,” Officer Tyler Beddoes said, according to Fox News.

The mysterious voice was so distinct at the time, that one of the officers verbally answered the woman’s call.

“I think it was Dewitt who said, ‘We’re trying. We’re trying our best to get in there,’” Beddoes said.

After rescuers were finally able to open the vehicle they found Jennifer Groesbeck dead in her car, while baby Lily was still clinging to life.

“How do you explain that? I don’t know.”

No one is sure how Lily survived being hung upside down in freezing cold temperatures, with icy water rushing just inches from her head for that long. Several of the firefighters who jumped into the water had to be treated for hypothermia.

“She is doing remarkably well considering the circumstance. The doctors have been hopeful so far,” said Jill Sanderson, Groesbeck’s sister.

Beddoes called the events of the day a miracle as rescuers try to process what happened.

“We all got together and we all heard the same type of thing,” Beddoes said.

“We just can’t grasp what we were hearing.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the young mother’s funeral costs.
