Large ‘patriot’ turnout in Texas counters ‘Stand with the Prophet’ conference

Protesters turned out in large numbers Saturday in Texas to counter the ill-timed “Stand with the Prophet” conference taking place there this weekend.

Held just 10 days after the horrific attack in Paris that left 16 dead, the annual forum was billed by organizers as a “movement to defend Prophet Muhammad, his person, and his message,” with an emphasis on opposing “Islamophobes in America.”

Following the carnage in France, the Islamic killers shouted: “We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad.”

Led by Pamela Geller, noted critic of radical Islam, the protesters held a “Free Speech Rally” outside the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, a suburb of Dallas, where the conference was held.

In an op-ed published last week, Geller said Saturday’s rally “will stand for the freedom of speech against all attempts, violent and stealthy, to impose Islamic blasphemy laws on Americans and stifle criticism of Muhammad and Islam.”

Understanding the full power of social media, rally organizers used the hashtag #FreeSpeechRally to get word out on their efforts, with a little assist from Fox News’ producer Jesse Watters.
