Former CIA agent: Obama’s releases from Gitmo are ‘insane’

President Obama continues to baffle the nation by emptying the Guantanamo Bay military prison of dangerous Islamic radicals.

Count retired CIA officer Gary Berntsen among the latest to express bewilderment over the counterintuitive strategy.

On Sunday’s “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Berntsen questioned White House press secretary Josh Earnest’s claim that only 6 percent of those released from the prison return to terrorism.

“How the United States is able to keep track of this when don’t know where these people are is a mystery to me,” Berntsen said. “There’s absolutely no way it’s 6 percent. I would tell you in my heart I know because I was there for the fight from the beginning.

“I tell you the numbers have got to be at least 50 percent,” he said.

Releasing Gitmo prisoners inspires jihadism, he said.

“Many of these people that we captured would tell us right to our faces: We’re going to be released and kill you and your families when we get out,” Berntsen said. “They don’t believe the United States is going to act harshly against them. They see the light at the end of the tunnel. They want to continue the fight against us. And the administration’s release of these guys is insane.”
