Hot on the heels of the terrorist attacks in Paris and amid growing concerns that such attacks could take place in the U.S., the Obama administration has announced the release of five more prisoners from the prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to Fox News.
Four prisoners, Al Khadr Abdallah, Muhammad Al Yafi, Fadel Hussein Saleh Hentif, And Al-Rahman Abdullah Au Ahabati and Mohammed Ahmed Salam were sent to Oman, while Akhmed Abdul Qadir was moved to Estonia, according to Fox News.
Neither nation has ever accepted former Guantanamo Bay prisoners.
The move reduces the number of detainees in Guantanamo to 122.
Defiant as ever, Obama made the releases after Republicans introduced legislation to hinder the administration’s ability to unilaterally transfer prisoners from the facility and asked for a “time out” on releasing Gitmo detainees in light of the Paris attacks.
The proposed legislation would repeal the current law that allows the president to move prisoners from the facility to foreign countries. The bill would also prohibit the transfer of any detainees if there were any confirmed cases of a former detainee engaging in terrorist activity, Fox News reported.
Another genius idea from the administration that cannot say the words “Islamic terrorism” and thought the U.S. didn’t need senior leadership at the Paris unity.
