Utter contempt: ‘Thousands of police officers’ turn their backs on NY mayor at slain cop’s funeral

Will the rift between New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the police he is charged with commanding ever be healed?

Despite calls from Commissioner Bill Bratton to city police asking them to not turn their backs on de Blasio again thousands of officers did just that Sunday when the embattled mayor eulogized called New York City Police Officer Wenjian Liu, the Associated Press reported.

“He walked a path of courage, a path of sacrifice and a path of kindness,” de Blasio said at the services. “This who he was, and he was taken from us much too soon.”

But his words don’t seem to matter much to the police officers.

Several reporters and citizens on the scene took to Twitter with pictures of the officers turning their backs on the mayor they believe turned his back on them long ago.
