Virginia congressman defends funding Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood

In the ongoing battle to deprive Mideast terrorists of financial support, one member of Congress vows he’ll make sure at least one group of violent extremists gets cash from U.S. taxpayers.

U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly, D- Va., defended U.S. funding of the Palestinian Authority, despite the fact that the authority includes members of Hamas, a group the U.S. says is a terror organization.

Connolly’s remarks, at a Sept. 28 Arab American Candidates Night forum, emphasized his determination to fight House of Representatives colleagues who might block the funding.

“When there are voices calling for the defunding of the Palestinian Authority, I oppose them, publicly,” Connolly said. “In fact I signed a letter signed by Congressman David Price of North Carolina, also signed by Jim (Moran DVa.), that said we are not going to defund the Palestinian Authority. That would guarantee an explosion in an already volatile situation. When there was a motion to close the Palestinian Authority office here in Washington or let it just be in New York, I opposed it and said it would be a terrible blow to diplomacy and not in U.S. interest let alone Palestine’s interest.”

“Gerry Connolly’s remarks are very troubling,” said Noah Silverman, Republican Jewish Coalition Congressional Affairs Director. “A vow to support taxpayer funding for a Palestinian government that includes Hamas demonstrates reckless indifference to our ally Israel and a disregard for U.S. law, which forbids aid to such a government.”

Connolly’s Republican challenger in November, Suzanne Scholte, posted the audio clip on her YouTube page of the congressman defending his position.

In a news release Tuesday, she said, “We also need to destroy terrorists not fund them.”

“Sending money to Hamas is reckless and hurts Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East – while destabilizing the entire region by legitimizing a terrorist group with U.S. dollars,” Scholte said in the news release.

During his speech, Connolly also addressed the Egyptian military coup that ousted the Mohammed Morsi-led Muslim Brotherhood government.

Every state needs to get rid of the dems in their states… we cannot vote in VA. but the people there need to oust this criminal against the American tax payers.

One more self serving douche bag, use this as an exposure of his shallow acts in congress. These mor-ons should and must be removed from congress, seeing they are so misled and without information and will say anything to be re-elected.

These people really need to wake up and smell the coffee – Obama is the reason that Islamofacism continue to grow. It is already here and our govt is supporting it. They will not revoke passports of individuals who left the US to go and fight for ISIS. Islamists do not come here to immigrate, they come to subjugate. They’ve been given a fatwa that all birth control is off the table, they want as many kids as possible to breed us off the planet. It is perfectly fine in their culture to lie to infidels and it is just as legal for them to kill you. Islam is a totalitarian Theocracy, where law, religion and politics are all rolled into one. Women have no rights and are considered property. Their system of law, Sharia, is not compatible with our Constitution, but you will hear Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR both explain that Sharia is Constitutionally compliant. NOT. If another country had decided that all Americans needed to go, we would be at war protecting our way of life. People are not getting it that Islam is a direct assault on the American way of life. We need to put aside our differences, come together, and save this great nation from Islam.

Connolly is an idiot. He has just given his opponent a huge campaign tool as well as throwing a couple more of his caucus under the bus. We could use a few more similar idiots to speak this way and eventually we may have a decent congress free of Democrats.

what a buffoon. the money is our money and we don’t want to be funding hamas. i think the “representatives” have forgotten who they represent.

  9. Dan Nowotarski says:

Is U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly just as eager and enthusiastic, and does he work just as hard, in pushing to give the American taxpayer a tax break, or push to give money back freely to the American taxpayer, as he is in wanting to give American taxpayers money to the Palestinian Authority, who gives money to Terrorists, or is he one who never found a tax he didn’t like and vote for?
