Chris Christie campaigns for Scott, plans four more visits: Four weeks, four visits. That’s the promise Chris Christie made to Floridians at a campaign stop Wednesday in Miami-Dade. “There’s no more important governor’s race to me than the one here in Florida,” said the New Jersey Republican. Christie, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, spent Wednesday afternoon campaigning with Gov. Rick Scott. The pair stopped at two campaign field offices in South Florida — in Boca Raton and in the Miami area — to meet with volunteers and supporters. Read more

Amendment 2 is on the ropes and could tumble: The once healthy Amendment 2, less than four weeks before the election, is in decline. John Morgan and supporters of Amendment 2 should take heed of a WFLA/Survey USA poll released this week. Amendment 2 scores 51 percent support, 33 percent opposition and needs three out of five undecided voters to get the 60 percent needed to pass. Amendment 2 now has a majority of Republicans and a majority of seniors against it. First lady Michelle Obama to attend Crist fundraiser in Central Fla. next week: First lady Michelle Obama will headline a fundraiser for Charlie Crist next week in Florida — the White House’s first foray into the governor’s race in the Sunshine State. The event will be held Oct. 17 at the Orlando-area home of former basketball star Grant Hill. No events have been set so far for President Barack Obama in Florida, but a trip of his own to campaign for Crist hasn’t been ruled out. Florida’s hangup: High cell phone fees and taxes: If you think you’re forking over too much of your paycheck to pay your cell phone bill, you’re not imagining things. Florida has the fourth highest average state-local cell phone tax and fee rate in the country at 16.55 percent, according to a study by the Washington-D.C.-based Tax Foundation. “If you add in the 5.82% federal rate, Floridians are actually paying 22.38% of their wireless bill in taxes fees on average. The U.S. average combined federal, state, and local rate is 17.05%,” according to the group’s press release. Read more
