With the country at war with a group explicitly invoking religion as its reason for fighting, Eric Holder’s Justice Department is getting ready to announce a policy turning a blind eye toward religious background in national security probes.
Fox News reported that Holder, who is leaving office as soon as President Obama can get his replacement confirmed, wants to put an end to the Justice Department taking into account religious background, race or sexual orientation in its national security investigation.
It’s a parting shot of PC idiocy.
Holder’s defenders will no doubt point to the internment of the country’s Japanese-Americans during World War II as a defense, but that’s not even close to similar.
The United States – under the president who selected Holder as attorney general in the first place – is belatedly going to war with a group that calls itself some variation of “Islamic State.” That name implies that even if Holder and his boss are under the impression this particular group of savages isn’t really Islamic, the savages themselves seem to think they are.
Banning the use of religion in cases of national security investigations when you’re at war with a gang of religious fanatics is like running a DUI checkpoint but trying not to smell booze — an act, put on for show and not accomplishing even a minimal goal.
The news isn’t being well received. The Los Angeles Times, which first reported the story, said Saturday that the idea was opposed by people who get paid to keep Americans from getting killed:
National security officials and others in the administration concerned about terrorism lobbied hard for such an exemption, according to congressional sources.
Twitter users weren’t happy about it either.

@gailtalk How sad The beginning of the end as we know it used to be

But it’s hardly the begining. Remember, this is the same Eric Holder who under questioning by Texas Republican Rep. Lamar Smith back in 2010 showed an almost pathetic inability to admit there even is such a thing as “radical Islam.”
If you haven’t seen this clip before, take a look. If you have, it’s worth a refresher to remember who exactly’s been in charge of law enforcement in the United States for six years.
