President Obama was an easy target for Saturday Night Live writers as the show kicked off its 40th season.
“Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che presented a pep talk to the “lame duck” commander in chief whose approval ratings are at an all-time low.
“We just want to take a minute to say,’cheer up President Obama, because no matter how hard things seem right now, things are gonna get easier.'”
Enter Kenan Thompson to sing a few lines of 1970’s hit “Ooh Child,” made popular by The Five Stairsteps.
The faux anchors reminded Obama that once he’s out of the White House nobody will care what he does. They painted a pretty funny picture of Obama’s future.
“You thought people flipped out over you in a tan suit? Wait till they see you in a purple suit,” Che said.
The two took a few obligatory jabs at Republicans, including a lame joke about George W. Bush, but mostly they slapped Obama with a series of whoppers.
“Plus, if you had a better approval rating, you’d have to be all over the country campaigning for other Democrats,” Che said. “But they don’t want you anywhere near them now. So why don’t you just skip the campaign tour and hit up the ‘On the Run’ tour with the real first family, Jay-Z and Beyonce.”
