Common Core support declining: Public support for Common Core, the education standards supported heavily by Jeb Bush, has suffered as more people learn about it, according to a new poll. While 80 percent of Americans have heard about Common Core, 60 percent oppose requiring teachers to use the standards to guide instruction, states the survey by PDK/Gallup. Opposition among Republicans was at 76 percent. Among Democrats, it was 38 percent, and independents 60 percent. Read more
After Crist objects, panelist withdraws from Oct. 15 gubernatorial debate: Observer Media Group CEO Matt Walsh will not participate in an Oct. 15 statewide gubernatorial debate hosted by Leadership Florida and the Florida Press Association. He will be replaced by Frank Denton, editor of the Florida Times-Union. Walsh withdrew his participation after Democrat Charlie Crist’s campaign expressed concern about his involvement because Walsh had given $250 to Republican Mitt Romney’s failed bid for president.
