Senators clash: Cruz dares Reid to leave the Ritz-Carlton

Sen. Ted Cruz has moved “front and center” in the GOP’s response to the border crisis, taking aim at Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), touring a Customs and Border Patrol facility and inviting Harry Reid visit the border.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Cruz said “Harry Reid lives in the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C. and I’m sure from his perspective the border seems secure. I would invite Harry Reid to come down with me to Texas and see the border.”

Cruz filed a measure last week to prevent the administration from using tax money to expand DACA, which creates an incentive for Central American parents to send their children on the perilous journey to the border.

“We all recognize the terrible humanitarian crisis that is occurring at the border, and all of us should come together to end the policies that have caused it,” Cruz said. “Tens of thousands of children are being smuggled into the United States by dangerous drug cartels and transnational gangs; it is heartless to allow that to continue.”
