Kids who opted out of Common Core test denied ice cream; parents not cool

The liberal notion that everyone should get a trophy only goes so far in an upstate New York elementary school. Arkport Central School District third through sixth graders who participated in Common Core testing were treated to ice cream. Those that didn’t got the “Ice Cream Nazi” treatment: No ice cream for you!.

The parents who refused to bow down to the god of Common Core were merely exercising their legal right to do so. And for that, their children had to succumb to the school district’s vindictive behavior, according to EAG News.

District superintendent Glenn Niles blamed the hubbub on the fact that more students opted out of the testing this year.

“Very sorry it was taken in the light that it was taken,” he said, according to WLEA News. “We try to do a simple token, as we’ve done every year that we’ve ever tested, and this year was no different. We just had more kids that didn’t take the tests, and therefore, it was a little bigger deal, so we will evaluate what we will do in the future.”

According to EAG:

As if he had no idea that small children might be upset when their classmates got ice cream and they didn’t. If Niles was genuinely surprised by the reaction, he has no business working around youngsters because he clearly does not understand them.

Niles and the school principal said they were very upset about the community reaction to the ice cream scandal.

“Some of the things said about me, about Mrs. Dewey [the principal], and about the school are really just plain ugly,” Niles added.

He’s surprised by the reaction? Speaking for myself, even though it’s been many decades since I’ve been in grade school, it would seriously tee me off if all my friends got free ice cream and I didn’t. And if this happened to my kid? I’d get ugly also.

I would say it’s time for the Arkport Central School District to start looking for a new superintendent and principal. Their mean spiritedness has no place in elementary education.
