Fans turn on country superstar Toby Keith for banning guns in new restaurant

Country music superstar Toby Keith is feeling major backlash for a sign banning guns at his new restaurant.

Despite gun-friendly laws in Virginia, where “Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill” is located, signs on the door read “no guns permitted.

Keith hasn’t commented on the controversy, but his fans had a lot to say to him on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

As one would expect, the debate raged in a war of words between Second Amendment advocates and gun grabbers.

Connie Hollar Wright: So, if “no guns are allowed” I guess this means police officers that are “on duty” aren’t allowed in for lunch or dinner?? Who are you guys callin when you need help???? Good luck with that!

Richard Howell: No thanks. The idea of “cowboys” against guns is just too lame to accept. I mean, seriously. That’s like a German speaking out against beer and lederhosen.

Willie Calhoun: Art, you are right as usual. Denying the people the right to protect themselves will make the place much safer. He should have opened in Chicago where it would really be safe.

Mike Broughton: Toby is actually a Democrat, which surprised the hell out of me, given his support for the troops. Most Dems don’t do that!

Lee Keller: THAT is a career killer… unless he turns it into a sushi bar.

Patrons interviewed had mixed opinions, but many seemed to have no problem with the decision. Some supporters defended the policy on Facebook as well:

Cynde Sears: THANK YOU for bringing sense to Woodbridge! We are more than willing to drive the 45 minutes it will take to get to your restaurant, and we’ll tell all our fellow Northern Virginians to do the same! Thank you for being a man of courage to stand up to these lead-poisoned fools.

Hal Shepherd: Since I really don’t need a handgun to eat a meal…..it’s not a problem for me. I respect your decision….it can stay in the trunk….

A few commenters defended Keith, pointing out that the singer may have had nothing to do with the decision made by management. That is a hard argument to make since his name is on the building.

Update 12/30: For clarification, it is not confirmed that Keith has any technical ownership in the franchise of restaurant’s that use his name.
