Parents of black teen want teacher fired over ‘white Santa’ comment

The floodgates have opened in the wake of the backlash over Megyn Kelly’s controversial declaration last week that Santa Claus is a white man.

Now, the parents of a New Mexico high school freshman want a teacher fired for questioning why their black son was dressed up like Santa since Santa is “supposed to be white.”

“He was literally embarrassed,” Michael Rougier said of his son, Christopher, who wore a Santa hat and beard to Cleveland High School’s holiday dress-up day.

At some point, a teacher reportedly asked Christopher why he wore the beard and hat, saying, “don’t you know Santa Claus is supposed to be white?” KOAT-TV reported.

The Rougiers, who were told about the incident from another parent, were furious, saying their son “won’t even touch the Christmas decorations” since he is “too ashamed by what happened.”

According to the report, the teacher called and spoke to Mrs. Rougier to apologize for his comment.

The district said the teacher was disciplined, but offered no specific details to KOAT, other than to say the teacher is “on paid leave,” after he “admitted to making a stupid mistake and reported himself to the school.”

And Christopher has been removed from the teacher’s class at the request of his parents.

However, Michael Rougier said that’s not enough.

“He needs to be fired,” Rougier said.

“For him to make a comment like that, there has to be at a minimum prejudice in him, and we don’t have room for that.”
