Good guy with gun: Burglar calls 911 for help after homeowner shoots him

ToledoNewsNow.com: News, Weather

A burglar called 911 last week after being shot and wounded by the owner of a Toledo, Ohio, home he was trying to rob.

Randy Estrada, 21, shattered the front window in an attempt to break into the home of Antione Garretof, 34, and his girlfriend at about 5 a.m. on Dec. 5. The noise awakened Garretof, who grabbed a handgun and ran downstairs, where he saw the would-be burglar crawling through the window, according to Toledo News Now.

Saying the incident was “like a scene from a movie,” the homeowner fired several shots at Estrada, who immediately retreated through the window.

Estrada called 911 shortly afterwards to report that he had just been shot. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound. He has since been released from the hospital, arrested and charged with burglary.

“If someone’s breaking into your house and you fear for your safety, you have the right to defend yourself and your family,” Sgt. Joe Heffernan told Toledo News Now. “And in this case, that’s what we believe Mr. Garret has done.”

Good. Police can’t protect all the people all the time.

    • Rob

Actually they are always late, just in time to fill out the report.

      • Scott Forster

Because it was their turn to work security for the donut shipment…

    • ginger

Police don’t protect unless they trip over a situation going down…they show up after. The right of self defense is the first law of nature.

      • bmrtoyo

and then they taze and shoot the wrong person , and do a review and find “no fault” i we “shoot the wrong person” were fubar’d

  • robertdavidhummel

Good to KNOW that even IDIOTS can REMEMBER 911…

  • disqus_7ZddE8QX2f

    Great out come.

    • Ben Love

A better outcome would have been funeral arrangements for the perp.

    Always remember to double tap!

  • jamesben

A criminal named “Estrada” in Ohio, huh? Ya, embrace the “diversity.”

  • Ryan Orona

Someone should give the homeowner complimentary gun training. He should have ended this piece of sewer excrement, but he gets an A for effort.

    • Scott Forster

I own guns, but I do not wish to take lives unless absolutely necessary

      • Kyle Kiernan

absolutely! me neither! IT IS the LAST THING I would want to do! (wink, excellent idea to get the legal CYA groundwork laid down early)

      • bmrtoyo

no on wishes harm on others in reality ,,, , unless they are twisted

This situation occurs almost every day in the US, but you’ll never see it in the national press.

The outcome was actually perfect, as the goal in the defensive use of firearms is to stop the threat. The “shoulda killed him” crowd here are the ones who need training.

    • SHOTGUN285

Not really. You don’t know much about how our bizarre legal system works if that’s the way you think. If he’s dead, it’s your word against a dead mans, and you are much better off being the only one telling his story to the cops or in court. If he lives he can and will sue you in an effort to get money from your homeowners insurance. Read a book called “How to defend yourself after you defend yourself.”. You really are much better off to kill the intruder from a legal and civil litigation standpoint (not to mention you rid society of one more dirtbag).

      • seazen

Oh, yeah. Killing, like greed, is good. What we need are much bigger guns in the house and instant use of them if anyone appears threatening. Kill them all!
        Merry Christmas!

oh cute, the liberal dumbasses have sent over a representative, now this thread is complete.

  • Doug

Great story. Unfortunate that the victims were living in sin. Especially during this sacred season.

    • Kenneth Clark

Oh Doug, have you ever observed a female, other than Hillary Clinton, that you didn’t have carnal thoughts of…

      • Doug

At least fleeting thoughts. That’s one sign you’re alive.

    • sheila

Who cares if they are living in sin if they love each other. you missed the big pic here. they are alive and well because of his gun and knowing how to use it safely.

      • Doug

        I can be so stupid.

      • Doug

I just hope they weren’t on the public dole.

    • Michael Brenner

how were they living in sin? there is no commandment that you must get married.
