The U.S. military is about to embark on military and special operations training for Libya’s military that will risk including Islamist terrorists among the trainees.

Adm. William McRaven told the Washington Free Beacon on Saturday that while the training operation hasn’t begun, it’s “in the early stages.”

The commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command disclosed the training would include both conventional forces training and special operations training and that there will be risks, the Free Beacon reported.

“We are going to have to assume some risks,” McRaven said. “Right now we have the authorities to do that training, and I think as a country we have to say there is probably some risk that some of the people we will be training with do not have the most clean records, but at the end of the day it’s the best solution we can find to train them to deal with their own problems.”

This is the best solution we can find?

Stanley Kurtz wrote in a recent National Review article that Libya “is swiftly turning into another Somalia,” then added:

“The government is paralyzed, while its authority throughout the country has disintegrated. Brutal tribal and Islamist militias rule… al-Qaida factions driven out of Mali by the French make their home in Libya’s southern desert, armed with weapons plundered from Qaddafi’s arsenals.”

Other problems, according to the Free Beacon, are that Ansar al Sharia, the al-Qaida affiliated terrorist group that attacked the U.S. compound in Benghazi, continues to operate openly, and intelligence reports say jihadists fighters are being trained in the country to join Islamist rebels fighting the regime of Syrian President Bashir Assad.

And U.S. troops are going to be introduced into this chaos?

The report did not mention what is known as “blue on green” attacks. CBS News reported last September that “Afghan government troops — our allies — turned their guns on NATO forces 36 times” in 2012, killing 51, most of them Americans.

The problem was so pervasive that the U.S. military suspended most joint field operations with Afghan forces because so many Americans are being killed by the men they are training.

The Free Beacon reported that 5,000 – 7,000 Libyans are expected to receive military training, adding that the special operations training raises the prospect that some of the most advanced military tactics and operations could be compromised to Islamists.
